About
I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in Belgium, working in the HYDR research group and the bglacier glaciology group under the supervision of Prof. Harry Zekollari.
My research focuses on understanding how climate change affects the cryosphere and water resources, particularly in glacierized basins. I combine physics-based models with machine learning approaches to address questions around glacier evolution, hydrological change, and water security.
Background
I completed my PhD in Environmental Sciences at the Universidad de Concepción (Chile) in 2023, where I assessed the impacts of climate change on spatio-temporal patterns of freshwater sources to the coastal system of Western Patagonia. During my PhD, I spent a seven-month research stay at the University of Innsbruck working with Fabien Maussion on regional glacier modelling.
I hold a Master’s in Civil Engineering (Water Resources) and a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering (Hydraulic-Environmental mention), both from the Universidad de Concepción.
Current Research
My current work includes:
- ICE-BUFFER: Global glacier buffering of streamflow droughts in a changing climate using deep learning (FWO-funded postdoctoral fellowship)
- Hybrid glacio-hydrological modelling in Patagonia and other mountain regions
